Abstract

Joseph Conrad expresses marvelously the rich flavor and the hidden meaning of events. Tocommunicate the reality he has seen and experienced, to saute with a mystical devotion the ideaof fidelity, to show the naked, lonely, and majestic human spirit in its capacity for striving andsuffering – this was Conrad’s achievement as a novelist. All of this and much more stands truefor Conrad’s masterpiece Heart of Darkness. It is a complex novel and a plethora of themes runthrough it .It is story of a character named Marlow who voyages to the mysterious DarkContinent to take the enigmatic figure Kurtz back to the civilization. However through hisjourney a number of themes like the indictment of imperialism, self -restraint, the predominanceof evil, solitude get unfolded. Marlow converts this anthropological night journey into aprofound symbolical one.
