A Case Study of United Healthcare: Lessons for Health Care Plans

Abstract

This is, as the title states, a study. It warrants that description because it is well researched and well documented and its results are competently analyzed. Its subtitle, "Lessons for Health Care Plans," is overly modest in targeting its readers, as the lessons can be of value to a broader audience. Any organization—insurance company, hospital corporation, or medical group, for example—considering entry into the alternative health care business or doing business with a health maintenance or preferred provider organization could benefit from this work. And, students of administration, whether in business generally or health care specifically, will find this a useful adjunct to their management texts.
