The aim of this review is to contribute to raise awareness of time management in nurses, by mentioning about the concept and importance of time and time management, methods and advantages of using the time effectively and factors causing improper use of time.
Time is a unique, scarce and finite source, no matter what is done, it cannot be brought back any more and it cannot be replaced when used. Time has a great importance for human life, so its effective use is an inevitable necessity in terms of balancing work with private life. Time management, which means using the owned time optimally and effectively is considered as planning and organizing how to divide an individual’s time between specific activities that should be done. It is particularly important for nurses to manage their time effectively. Because the time wasted by nurses is the time required to be allocated for the patient but not the time spent with themselves which affects the quality of healthcare negatively. Effective time management in nursing leads to improvement of managerial talents, protection of human resources, reduction of stress and eventually, increases job satisfaction and improves mental health. Nurses need to improve their time management skills in order to provide health care services with high quality.
