Alexander Law The London Hospital, Whitechapel, London El Dear Sir, Thank you for letting me see a copy ofDr Dixon's letter (January Proceedings, p 53) concerning my paper in the October issue (p 715). I myself stressed the value of early diagnosis and medical treatment, but my series ofcases was based on a thirty-year programme during which time many of my colleagues sent me patients requiring surgical treatment, which of course is my main interest. Dr Dixon may not have appreciated how long it has taken to build up this series. Yours sincerely
