Abstract

The safe and sustainable management of biomedical waste is a social and legal responsibility of all people supporting and financing health-care activities. Appropriate BMW management (BMWM) is mandatory for protecting the health of human beings. This article provides a detailed information pertaining to the biomedical waste management system functioning within the state of Kerala. In Kerala there are two CBWTF- IMA-IMAGE and KEIL. The modern IMA-IMAGE system is responsible for the management of about 82% of the biomedical wastes generated from the health care institutions within the state of Kerala. The biomedical wastes generated within the Health care institutions is appropriately collected, transported and treated by the CBWTF thereby creating a safe environment for the public and the health care workers.
