Abstract
Based on a lecture given to the Society on 12 October 1976. Mr Mountfort is one of Britain's leading ornithologists and conservationists. He has played an active part in the formation of the World Wildlife Fund, of which he is a Trustee. He has led scientific expeditions to many parts of the world. His book The Vanishing Jungle, with illustrations by Eric Hosking, is the account of one of these expeditions. He is also co-author of the Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Europe,
