Abstract

The purpose of this report is to develop a psychological character analysis based on a movie character in “As Good as It Gets”. The movie depicts an individual (Melvin Udall) who suffers from a psychological disorder. However, as the movie progresses, the symptoms and the dysfunctions gradually becomes manageable by the subject himself displaying a recovery state of the character. This report will focus on the first half of the movie when the symptoms were intensified. Using a Multi Axial Diagnosis based on the DSM IV, this report further analyses the diagnostic criteria, possible causation, and possible treatment plans available to manage the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
