Abstract

The __primary aim__ of the current thesis is: – To determine the effect of cognitive behavioral group therapy on maintaining weight during 2 years of follow-up after weight loss via a very low-calorie diet in overweight and obese adults with type 2 diabetes. The __secondary aims__ are: – To evaluate the effects of cognitive behavioral group therapy on cardiovascular risk factors and psychological wellbeing during 2 years of follow-up after weight loss via a very low-calorie diet. – To determine which individuals benefit most from a very low-calorie diet. – To determine the short-term effect of diet-induced weight loss on glycemic parameters and cardiovascular disease risk factors.
