Abstract

Ruben L.F. Habito was born in the Philippines where he joined the Jesuit order. He went to Japan in 1970 as a missionary, was ordained to the priesthood and also became an expert in Zen teaching and practice. He later left the Jesuits and the priesthood and moved to the United States. He now teaches at the Perkins School of Theology at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He has written much on Zen-Christian themes in both English and Japanese and is known for his excellent lectures on Zen.
