Abstract

Electrical Vehicle (EV) is a vehicle which runs with the electrical power instead of fossil fuel. Electric vehicle runs with the electric power accumulated in a battery which needs to be charged in a regular basis. In order to charge the EV-batteries, the EVs are connected to the charging stations or the battery charging units which are connected to the electric-power-grid and collects the AC electrical power from the grid. Depending on the number of vehicle connected to the grid faces the variable amount of power demand which should be efficiently handled by the grid controller to maintain a certain grid stability. In this paper the smart-charging procedure for electric-vehicles (EVs) has been reviewed. The effect of the power drawn by the battery-electric-vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in-hybrids-electric-vehicles (PHEVs) has been studied and the effect on the grid stability has been discussed. The possibility, advantages and challenges of the smart charging has been discussed in detail by providing a number of case studies. The integration-procedure of the renewable energy sources with the local grids and its combined effect on the grid has also been discussed.
