Among ethnomusicologists at least, there is much discussion on the forms and techniques of music traditions within specific societies in various, but ainly 'exotic', parts of the world. Far less comparative discussion takes place, for ethnomusicologists tend to be specialists both as to culture and type. In the course of their work they may describe the instruments employed, the ways they are played and even, in some cases, how they are made. But of the study of musical instruments themselves there is rather less discussion or so the specialists in this branch of ethnomusicology have maintained in arguing for recognition in the meetings of the International Council for Traditional Music.
