Environmental sustainability and competitivity

Abstract

SUMMARY Traditionally, with the productive activities and in order to satisfy man's necessities in general, many ecosystems have been affected due greatly to the transformation and alteration of the natural base upon the indiscriminate extraction and use of his natural resources. This transformation brings with it the functional weakening and the reduction of its capacity of the natural supply of goods and services which are continuously on demand. Due to these unequivocal signs, in the past two decades the environment and natural resources have been causes for worry in all the countries in the world which have led to the implementation of a generalized culture of change for the purpose of using the different resources more efficiently and reduce the impacts and costs through the use of clean technologies. In order to advance in this process, today there are cleaner environmental policies that allow coordinating and participating in environmental management, without detriment to the develop­ ment of productive activities. As research advances and clean or ecological technologies are generated or adopted, the Oil Palm Agroindustry applies a good proportion of them to improve its productive processes, on the one hand, and on the other hand, to use the resources rationally and maintain the natural supply. Relevant aspects are outstanding in this work of the components related with sustainability, productivity and competitivity in order to delve deeply into their application.
