Abstract

John Steinbeck's masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath,which was published in 1939,is a piece of work with special meaning in American literature.The novel describes the desperate plight of the Joads,an "Okie" family,joining hundreds of thousands of farm families moving to California due to successive years of drought,as well as the oppression of banks and large enterprises.The thesis analyzes the novel from the perspective of ecocriticism to explore the thought root of ecological disasters,to attack western Anthropocentrism and to promote harmonious relationship between man and nature,between man and man.The Grapes of Wrath reflects the ecological thought of John Steinbeck,which is meaningful for the sustainable development and harmonious relationship of mankind.
