Abstract

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is now standardizing Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC), a transport protocol in order to provide improved network performance over transmission control protocol (TCP). In this regard, the encryption of multimedia data using QUIC protocol and its comparison with TCP is considered in this paper. The authentication and encryption are assisted by the generation of a unique certificate for each multimedia data transfer from the certificate authority (CA), which is validated at the client server end with a Diffie-Hellman key exchange. Multimedia data transfer is supported without loss of original byte size of data sent. Further, the performance of QUIC protocol has been analyzed for multimedia data transfer for different file sizes. The simulation findings reveal that the QUIC protocol outperforms when compared to TCP protocol in a number of different scenarios.
