Abstract

Marc DUFUMIER was trained as an agricultural economist and obtained his PhD in geography from Paris I-University (Pantheon-Sorbonne) in 1974. He works as a senior professor in “Comparative agriculture and agricultural development” at the Paris institute of technology for life, food and environmental sciences (Agro-ParisTech). He is also an active member of the administration council of the Research and Extension Institute for Development (IRAM-France). In addition to his research on agrarian systems and his comparative studies on the economic competitiveness and the ecological sustainability of different farming systems in the world, Marc DUFUMIER offers scientific contributions to some rural and agricultural policies programs and projects in various countries of Southeast Asia, Sub-Sahara Africa and Latin America. One of his latest book is Les agricultures et paysanneries des tiers-mondes (2004).
