Abstract

Is there a place for systematic networking in the field of international social welfare? First, what is meant by the term ’networking’? Many readers will share with me a frustration with the use of such jargonistic terms, which at one and the same time connote physical images (such as fishing nets or spider’s webs), social images (such as friends, colleagues or business associates), abstract images (such as a set of interconnected ideas) and, finally, active images (such as a deliberate use of interconnections for purposes that are often not explicitly stated).
