Abstract

Topical issues in the structure and the function of biological auditory systems are briefly reviewed. Techniques newly applied to structural issues of peripheral and central nervous systems are described. Novel approaches to the functional issues of fusion, localization, and recognition of acoustic patterns are presented by example.
