Abstract

ABSTRACT To the Editor.— Kamholtz's letter about GRAY cats (227:558, 1974) leaves something to be desired. Erudite withal, the writer fails to mention BLACK cats—black, lovable, amiable, cuddly, and kind—maligned unreasonably in folklore as demoniacal crossers of one's path. Not so! Let a black cat cross your path, befriend it as a stray, and you have a life-long (nine lives) companion. As a benefactor of 43 black cats—all male—I take great joy in their companionship. Yet, they seem somehow discontent, or uneasy, or unfulfilled. Heretofore, I have kept them at the hearthside. Should I let them loose upon the GRAYS, or is castration the answer to their problem? I think not. Better that there be BLACK-GRAYS or GRAY-BLACKS than there be 43 frustrated BLACK could-be libertine cat kins, kousinable kousins, to beautify the world.Skat, kats!
