Abstract

The paper considers the Mongolian power system, first of all, the state and prospects for the development of renewable energy sources. The Mongolian power system consists of the five operating subsystems. Central power system is the largest one, which produces 97% of the total generation and 80% of the total consumption. In general, combined heat and power plants generate 83% of all electricity in this region and renewable power plants generate the remaining 17%. The creation of power plants based on renewable energy is promising, since during peak load hours the existing Mongolian power system is not generating enough power; in addition, it is possible to export electricity to China. However, the use of a combination of thermal power plants and renewable sources, including hydroelectric power plants, leads to a complication of the regime. This paper presents the statistical values of consumption and generation of the power system of Mongolia based on the data of the Energy Regulation Commission of Mongolia and other sources.
