Abstract

PANCREATITIS IN INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS.-Twenty consecutive cases of infectious mononueleosis were studied at weekly intervals and in two instances a definite elevation of the values of serum amylase and lipase was demonstrated. This finding is suggestive of an associated pancreatic disturbance in patients with infectious mononueleosis. This was possibly a pancrea- titis, but lymph node obstruction of the pancreatic ducts must be considered. It is quite possible that many asymptomatic, acute, subacute, and chronic inflammatory changes of the pancreas exist in association with viral diseases which at the present time are not appreciated. It is conceivable that such infection may play a r81e in the etiology of chronic relapsing pancreatitis, the patho-genesis of which remains obscure. - Myhre, J. and S.: J. Lab. 4- Clin.
