Competency is defined by Dictionary.Com as “having suitable or sufficient skill, knowledge, experience, etc., for some purpose; properly qualified.” In home care, we have become expert at measuring competency to assure quality in process and services. Assessing technological competency is becoming increasingly important as home care moves quickly into a highly technological environment. If the home care team is not technologically competent at the time of hire or before new technology is implemented, the proficient and productive performance that was easily attained in low-tech home care can become an impossible goal.
