Abstract
Summary: Foot infections have been studied in three diverse populations and records made of the signs and symptoms of infection and of the bacteriological and mycological findings. Dermatophytes could account for 58% of the infection in hospital outpatients, 36% in a group of industrial workers and 26.7% in a population of coal miners. In general, itching and soreness were related to infection with dermatophytes. Gram negative bacilli accounted for much of the remaining infection but offered no specific signs or symptoms. Yeasts did not appear related to infection in any group.
