Globalization of the Telecommunications Service Industry : A Case of Korea Telecom

Abstract

The recent trend of globalization of the telecommunications service industry draws the attention of business researchers. This is because the telecommunications service industry has been relatively slow in their globalization, despite its significant role in driving the other industries towards globalization. The major reasons of globalization of the telecommunications service industry are the privatization of the telecom operators and the deregulation of the industry. However, the global moves in the telecommunications service industry happen faster and more complicated than business researchers have expected. Thus, understanding the trend of the industry and the behavior of individual firms in the industry is an essential step to see whether traditional theories can explain the recent phenomena in the telecommunications service industry.
