This paper explores the role of religion in resolving conflicts and promoting peace. Ironically, it has been repeatedly exploited to fuel exclusionary religious nationalism and contribute to global conflict. It focuses on the role that religions are currently playing in igniting the disputes, instead of putting out fires. To understand that role, it is crucial to realize that religion plays a multifaceted role in human life. While it often plays a positive role—as a source of guidance, solace, moral integrity, and unity— it can also be manipulated for harmful purposes. In this context, this paper explores the rise of religious nationalism, its historical and modern manifestations especially in the United States (US), India, and Israel. Lastly, it underscores the significance of interfaith unity and the role of religion in promoting justice and harmony to address contemporary challenges. (Editors)
