Abstract

Organic farming is the type of farming which helps in maintaining the soil quality, enhances crop productivity, and improves the water retention capacity of the soil. Vermiculture is one of branches of organic farming wherein the EisenFoetida (red earthworms) are grown. These worms play a crucial role in the vermicomposting process. This technique requires regulating of some of the parameters like moisture content of the soil, ambient temperature of the vermicomposting chamber, level of gas produced in the chamber necessary for the survival and growth of the worms. The process of vermicomposting requires a period varying from 45-120 days, depending on the materials to be composted. The present work aims at using the features of IoT to continuously monitor and maintains the necessary parameters at optimum level and hence minimizes the human intervention.
