A successful transition from the lab to the law builds on lessons learned and rigor developed as a scientist, but also requires the acquisition of new skills; a shift in work habits, tempo, and rhythm; and a shift in attitude from the pursuit of truth for its own sake to the development of pragmatic solutions that draw on the law to serve the best interests of one's own client, to resolve a dispute between two parties, or to generate legal rules to promote a policy goal. This talk will explain these requirements for a successful transition to a legal career in more detail and provide audience members with guidelines for determining whether a career in the law is right for them.
