Abstract
The chapter aims to describe and discuss the main peculiarities of undertaking research on work-life balance (WLB). It tries to identify some of the main recurrences, criticalities and potentialities in approaches to research on WLB with particular regard to the most recent developments (over the last 10 to 15 years or so). The authors firstly illustrate the main research designs and empirical methods used in work-life balance research and the samples involved;they then present the main innovation arising from studies and reflections presented in the chapters of this edited volume and from wider literature on WLB;finally, they reflect on the consequences and challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic may present in terms of doing research on work-life balance and approaches to fieldwork. © Sonia Bertolini and Barbara Poggio 2022.
