Abstract

The whole human resource has become the center of concern, not only in the reasoning capacities, but also in creativity, emotions, communication and interpersonal skills. Communication strategies are considered as important tools of workplace success. An effective communication strategy leads to successful communication by creating a common ground of understanding, a system and defined professional objectives. Emotions cannot be ignored if we want passion from the students and employees. Unmanaged emotional reactions or lack of emotional intelligence and communication skills by people are undergoing problems like rising rates of depression, lack of innovation and creativity, negative organizational climate and culture. A review on the origin of EI, its history and development is done to recognize the connection between Emotional Intelligence and Communication, and its benefits. It aims to explore the unexplored areas to provide the scope of further study in the core areas of EI and the skills of interpersonal communication, intrapersonal communication, empathy, self-talk, listening, strategic communication, assertiveness and cooperative learning in depth to improve the ability to engage our emotion in effective ways to have a more positive communication exchange. Thus, the paper focuses on the importance of emotions when properly managed drive trust, loyalty, commitment and positive work environment. The review presents the need to study emotional intelligence in a multi-sector private university in Odisha as it is a useful and valuable context and tool, and proposes the development of a communication model to help capitalize strengths and improve weaknesses.
