HIF-1α as a transcriptional factors may be involved in the pathogenesis and activity of UC.

Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the expression of HIF-1α in the tissues of patients with UC and its relationship with activity of UC. [Methods] Immunohistochemistry assay was performed to detect the expression of HIF-1α in the samples from 35 cases with UC in active stage, 12 cases at stable stage, and 20 cases in normal control. [Result] The expression of HIF-1α was higher in patients with UC at active stage than that in the controls (152.27±16.26) vs (193.28±16.65), P 0.01, while the expression of HIF-1α in UC at stable stage was not significantly different from that in the controls (185.93±11.80) vs (193.28±16.65), P 0.05. The level of HIF-1αin the tissues in active UC was positively correlated with the Walmsley renal scoring (r =0.531, P =0.001). [Conclusion] HIF-1α as a transcriptional factors may be involved in the pathogenesis and activity of UC.
