Abstract

Key Points Question Are continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and insulin pump use associated with the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR)? Findings In this cohort study including 550 individuals with type 1 diabetes, CGM use was associated with lower odds of developing DR and proliferative DR. During the 8-year study period, in the age of diabetes technology, 21.8% of adults with type 1 diabetes in this cohort experienced progression of DR. Meaning The findings of this study suggest that CGM should be encouraged for diabetes management, as it is associated with lower odds of developing DR.
