This case study presents the RBB, a public-permissioned network focused on government applications and public interest in general. The RBB is a joint initiative led by the Brazilian Development Bank and the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts, and other institutions in Brazil. The case briefly reviews DLT concepts, from their inception to their applications in blockchain networks, with its main characteristics, challenges, and future perspectives. Currently, the RBB is in an early stage of development, and the article describes from its conception to the moment of membership of the participants, whose main entry rule is to be an institution of public interest. The article goes through concepts of Blockchain technology, its networks, the presentation of RBB, and the choices made for the Brazilian network. Finally, the text presents future perspectives, indicating the following challenges to overcome and the migration from the laboratory to the pilot phase.
