Adaptive optimization methods for the equalization techniques in the optical receivers

Abstract

Adaptive optimization techniques are an essential part of the receiver equalization technologies, which is one of hot topics in optical communications now. This paper summarizes the widely used adaptive optimization algorithms, such as the LMS algorithm, after briefly introducing the commonly used equalization schemes in optical receivers. We also give a summary and analysis of the current research results on the application of these schemes in optical communications as well as introducing the variations and improvements of these methods. A comparison of other issues, such as the choice of the feedback monitoring signals is also discussed.
