The management of health care waste was found to be satisfactory in group 1 health care hospital/unit whereas in the remaining group of health health care hospitals /units the management was not satisfactory.
Health care waste is a special category of waste, which needs to be handled appropriately with precautions because it carries a higher potential for infection and injury than any other type of waste. Currently it is being managed casually. The objectives of the study were to study the type and quantity of health care waste generated, to study the present state of health care waste management, to assess the health care waste management among various levels of staff in health care centres/units and to provide recommendations for proper health care waste management. The present study was undertaken in different health care centres/units of Dehradun main study centre was CMI Hospital. A questionnaire was used to get detailed information of (biomedical) health care waste and other waste during the survey of hospital/units and conduct the study. The obtained data was tabulated. A total of80 doctors and 749 supporting staff members belonging to various levels were working in the different health care hospitals /units. The management of health care waste was found to be satisfactory in group 1 health care hospital/unit whereas in the remaining group of health care hospitals /units the management of health care waste was not satisfactory. The health care waste generated was observed to range from 86.20.gms/patient/dayto101.gms/patient/day.
