Influence of Novels of Tramps on American Novels

Abstract

Generally speaking,the earliest tramp novel in America may be traced back to the 19th century American writer Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle.However,it is Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that really marks the first peak of art of American tramp novels.In the 20th century,the prestige and popularity of American tramp literature were mainly built on Jack Kerouac's On the Road,William Kennedy's Tramp,etc.These novels not only inherit the artistic tradition of European tramp novels,but also reflect clear-cut features scenes of the times and the unique American spirit.
