The Catholic Church's stand against abortion and contraception should be changed to enable people to make their own decisions in reproductive and sexual matters.
There is increasing evidence that almost any cell is capable of producing another complete organism. Since each cell is potentially a human person, the cell is no different than an ovum. The time at which a fetus becomes a person is thus the serious question. Since the cerebral cortex does not reach the stage of self-awareness before the sixth month, abortion before that time is not killing a human person. The Catholic Church's stand against abortion and contraception should be changed to enable people to make their own decisions in reproductive and sexual matters.
