Abstract

Wildlife conservation in South Africa is afforded mainly on a provincial basis. Apart from conservation in terms of the National Parks Act 42 of 1962, and to a lesser extent by the Forest Act 72 of 1968, the National Monuments Act 28 of 1969, the Sea Birds and Seals Protection Act 72 of 1968, the National Monuments Act 28 of 1969, the Sea Birds and Seals Protection Act 46 of 1973 and with the exception of certain municipal bylaws, wildlife in South Africa is conserved in terms of provincial ordinances.
