Abstract

This monograph of 100 odd text pages merits being characterized as both comprehensive and critical on the one hand and concise and constructive on the other. While in the main, the discussion relates to adults, obesity in children is not neglected and the attitude of the authors reflects the most widely accepted pediatric thinking on the matter. The introduction points out the hazard to health and longevity which obesity carries. With respect to physiology, it is emphasized that no abnormality which violates the principles of the conservation of energy has ever been demonstrated.
