Abstract

Abstract The definition of leadership is a complex and constantly changing concept in the global environment. While previous scholarship has focused on leadership values, styles, and experience, research on the definition of leadership from a cultural perspective has drawn little attention. In spite of some of the universal attributes pertaining to outstanding leadership some leaders share, it is difficult and risky to attempt any one universal definition of leadership across cultures. The aim of this article is to examine the differences and similarities among definitions of leadership in different cultures and how in turn these cultures shape the definitions of leadership in their own cultural environments.
