Abstract
A set of slides representing six interior styles of design (Victorian, English, Country French, Contemporary, Early American, and Eclectic) was shown to 22 subjects who responded to them on a 20-item semantic differential scale. Four factors obtained from the scale were used as dependent variables in one-way analyses of variance. No differences were found on either the spiritual or activity factors. However, the Eclectic and Country French designs were rated highest and the English design lowest on both the evaluation and aesthetic appeal factors. Early American was judged as intermediate in beauty but high in livability.
