La representación mediática de la violencia: Modalización polifónica en la noticia del periódico El Tiempo.

Abstract

This article is the result of a research about the significant behaviors of media, specially the written media, regarding to the representations of violent groups in the country, especially, the FARC and the AUC or paramilitary groups. In this specific case, the aim was to show how the newspaper �EL TIEMPO� creates a modalised representation of these groups by its news and comments, but specifically showing the FARC as the principal responsible of the violent history in Colombia, but making invisible and reducing the actions made by the paramilitary groups. The main result of this research is the confirmation that pure representations are not possible; they are always modalised, and this modalisation is not always made by the mere fact of qualifying or discrediting the topic or the actions mentioned in the news. This modalisation is part of complex selections and concealments of the actors and their actions; even it is given by the place, the design, and the edition of the newspaper.
