The objectives of this guest feature article are to review some of the technical areas and history associated with the discipline known as robotics, to provide information relative to the formation of a Robotics Industry Committee within the Industry Applications Society, and to describe how all activities relating to robotics will be coordinated within IEEE.
Abstract
THE EMERGING discipline known as robotics has been the subject of much discussion in the media in the past several years. It has been the subject of many technical articles in various IEEE publications, the thrust of many articles on the reindustrialization of the United States, and the prime focus of television specials dealing with employment and productivity problems associated with U.S. industry. The objectives of this guest feature article are to review some of the technical areas and history associated with the discipline known as robotics, to provide information relative to the formation of a Robotics Industry Committee within the Industry Applications Society, and to describe how all activities relating to robotics will be coordinated within IEEE.
