Abstract

In education, it’s often said that the “culture” of a school system determines its ability to change. But what, exactly, can superintendents do to influence district culture, and how can they tell that the culture really is changing? In this piece, Joshua Starr describes the steps he took after taking the helm of a large, well-regarded district to advocate for and model certain core values that he hoped others would embrace.
