Abstract

• VLSI is an implementation technology for electronic circuitry – it can be used for either analogue or digital circuitry – but we are concerned here with digital circuitry • It is concerned with – forming a pattern of interconnected switches and gates on the surface of a crystal of semiconductor • Key technology – used in computers – consumer devices • televisions, radios, telephones • CD players, automatic cameras • washing machines, etc. – has made highly sophisticated control systems mass-producable and therefore cheap.
