Office Hours TBD Seminar Description How do humans learn and remember information? This seminar examines the scientific principles of learning and how you can apply this knowledge to your college studies. We begin by introducing the foundations of learning and memory first proposed by psychologists such as Ebbinghaus, James, Pavlov, and Skinner. Next, we discuss the biological basis for learning at the level of the brain and the formation of connections between neurons. We investigate a variety of factors that affect learning and memory, including sleep, hormones, drugs, technology, and neurological conditions such as dyslexia and Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout the seminar, we illustrate how cognitive science can be used to develop strategies to enhance the effectiveness of your learning in college.
