Abstract

Significant progress has been made in the Space Reactors design and experimental programs. Further analysis of the space reactor reactivity has shown that 2 to 3 kg of B.C must be evenly distributed through out the core to prevent criticality in the case of water immersion. A new core heat pipe processing, filling, and confirmatory testing system has significantly reduc ed the time required for these operations. The first dual-artery molybdenum/sodium heat pipe has been fabri cated successfully. de velop methods of strengthening wicks and reducing wick pore size through chemical vapor deposition have yield ed good results using tungsten.
