Abstract

Polymerase chain reaction is a simple method of DNA amplification which permits a single short sequence to be replicated in the Laboratory many million times. The procedure takes a few hours at most, and can be adapted for non-radioactive analysis. As little as a single human cell, or single virus, can be studied. For human samples, the amplification is diploid, and in general both genes are replicated to give an equal number of copies,
