Abstract

The is the first English publication of Vygotsky's work of 1926-27 that was composed at the time of, or, more likely, immediately after the completion of his work on the unfinished manuscript "The Historical Meaning of the Crisis in Psychology." Unlike the latter manuscript, this work was finalized, prepared for publication by its author, and published in 1928. In a certain sense, this publication can be regarded as a shortened and yet comprehensive exposition of the main points of his unpublished manuscript on the crisis in psychology.
