An outline of ITS in Japan is presented based on several ITS service systems such as vehicle information communication system (VICS), electronic toll collection (ETC) with dedicated short range communication (DSRC) technology. 5.8 GHz-DSRC is introduced as a leading technology for road-vehicle and inter-vehicle communication and other telecommunications technologies are commented on as near future research tasks
