The purpose of the present work is to expand the state of knowledge of the genetic basis of incompatibility in a Honduran isolate of Didym- ium iridis in order to provide a foundation for the next step in the study of incomp compatibility.
Abstract
SUMMARY The purpose of the present work is to expand our state of knowledge of the genetic basis of incompatibility in a Honduran isolate of Didym- ium iridis. This is necessary in order to provide a foundation for the next step in the study of incompatibility. The nature of the incompati- bility reaction and the role of the individual loci can only be determined with well-defined genetic material. The diplohaplontic life cycle of Myxomycetes, in which both genera- tions can be maintained and manipulated genetically, is a great research asset but it can also be confusing because of these unique features.
