The present study was designed from a Sullivanian theoretical perspective to explore the nature of friendship patterns during preadolescence. Specifically, an attempt was made to replicate with females a previous finding that preadolescent boys involved in a chum relationship exhibited significantly greater levels of altruistic behavior than those without a chum.
